TRAIL RUN

We are so excited to be part of the annual Fresh@Beskuitfontein Trail Run which was held for the first time in December 2019. The event is a collaboration between Fresh Trails (https://freshtrails.co.za/) and Stefan and Yolandi Erasmus who farms on Beskuitfontein. The one-day event offers four trail distances – 7km, 14km, 30km and a 60km trail added from 2020. The trails are well-marked covering a great mix of technical, flowing, rocky, sandy, mountain, single track, jeep track and no track trail. Well-placed waterpoints with all sorts of snacks and drinks are there to keep runners refreshed.

The race village with the start and finish to the race is located on Beskuitfontein farm, just 4km down the road from Carlton Heights Guesthouse. We provide accommodation to runners who prefer not to camp at the village and prepare the meals for the event. Campers and runners enjoy true Karoo cuisine with delicious lamb chops, “skilpaadjies”, roosterkoeke and more – all going down with ice cold Steller Brewery (https://www.facebook.com/stellarbrewery/) craft beer and gin on tap. The village even offers open air showers under the stars and cooling down in an old school farm dam next to a windpomp.

The 60km route added in 2020 includes a run through the heart of the farming operation as well as an added mountain pass and watershed plateau featuring stunning panoramic views. Together with the Fresh Trails team, we strive to make the Fresh@Beskuitfontein Trail Run a quality outdoor experience with a refreshing family-friendly farm feel! Remember the convenience of Carlton Heights Guesthouse and Beskuitfontein being located literally on the N9-national route towards the coast – this is exactly why this race is the perfect stop-over for trail-lovers kicking off their December holiday. Take note that it is only a 70km detour to reach us when travelling along the N1 to the Western Cape by turning off on the N10 at Hanover.
